Funny People “Funny
People” is a film that’s undone by its own ambition. It tries to tell a serious story, but
not too serious, a story of blighted love, yet not so blighted, a story about
death coming to someone who is too young to die, yet pulling back just at the
moment of truth. It’s
a failure, yet a fascinating one with hints of insight that if they had been
allowed to come out might have made this a truly great film. Written and directed by
Judd Apatow (“The 40-Year-Old Virgin,”
“Knocked Up”), “Funny People” is the story of George
Simmons (Adam Sandler, playing it probably as close to his own personality as
we’re likely to see). |
